With recent pass rates hovering between 55% and 60%, the exam is challenging but very passable — with the right preparation.

Exam Overview
The RTLE is a paper-based, multiple-choice exam taken over two consecutive days. It's held annually in December at testing centers across the Philippines, with a Special Professional Licensure Exam (SPLE) usually offered in June for qualified applicants.
Under the Enhanced Table of Specifications (TOS) adopted in 2023, all five clusters are weighted equally at 20%. This is a significant change from older syllabi where percentages varied by subject.

12-Week Study Plan for the RTLE
Weeks 1-3: Physics & Image Production
Start with the science. If you understand why X-rays are produced and how they interact with matter, everything else in radiography becomes clearer. Focus on:
X-ray tube components and the production of Bremsstrahlung and characteristic radiation
The electromagnetic spectrum, photon energy, wavelength, and frequency
Photoelectric vs Compton scatter — and how each affects image quality and patient dose
kVp, mAs, SID, OID — and the formulas that connect them (use our calculators to drill these)
Digital imaging concepts: CR vs DR, pixel, matrix, bit depth, exposure index
Weeks 4-6: Positioning & Procedures
Go region by region. For each projection, memorize:
Part position — patient orientation, anatomical landmarks
Central ray — entrance point, angle, and exit point
Structures demonstrated — what the image should clearly show
Evaluation criteria — how to tell if the image is acceptable
Pay special attention to contrast studies (barium swallow, IVU, HSG) — these are high-yield topics in the Philippine exam.
Weeks 7-9: Patient Care & Ethics
This is often underestimated. The Philippine exam puts significant weight on RA 7431 and the Code of Ethics for Radiologic Technologists. Know:
The key provisions of RA 7431 (Radiologic Technology Act of 1992)
Patient rights, confidentiality, and informed consent
Contrast media reactions — types, signs, and management protocols
Infection control: standard precautions, sterilization levels, and aseptic technique
Vital signs, CPR, and emergency response in the radiology department
Nuclear Medicine: Common radiopharmaceuticals by organ system, gamma camera principles
Radiation Therapy: Teletherapy vs brachytherapy, treatment planning basics, dose fractionation
Week 12: Simulated Exams & Final Review
Take at least two full-length practice exams under timed conditions. Review every wrong answer and categorize your weak areas. Focus your final days on your lowest-performing clusters.

The students who pass aren't the ones who read the most — they're the ones who did the most practice questions. Aim for 100+ questions daily in weeks 10-12. Every wrong answer is a learning opportunity.
Registration Requirements
Applications are filed through the PRC LERIS online portal at online.prc.gov.ph. Prepare these documents:
PSA-issued Birth Certificate
PSA-issued Marriage Certificate (for married female applicants)
Transcript of Records (TOR) — with "For Board Examination Purposes" remark
Valid NBI Clearance
Two (2) passport-size photos (white background, name tag visible)
Exam fee payment (via PRC LERIS)
Eligibility: Filipino citizen, graduate of a CHED-recognized BS Radiologic Technology program, completed clinical internship, and of good moral character.
After the Exam
Results are typically released within 3 working days. Successful examinees proceed to:
Oath-taking — in-person or online ceremony via LERIS
Initial Registration — get your PRC ID (Professional Identification Card) and Certificate of Registration
You are now officially an RRT (Registered Radiologic Technologist)
Required documents for registration include your Notice of Admission, Oath Form, two passport-size photos, documentary stamps, and a brown envelope.
